Richfield's No. 1 singles player, Emrie Sorenson won matches against players from Carbon and Emery before losing in the championship match to Juab at the region championships contests Sept. 26-27 at North Sanpete. "Our girls played well and were able to finish in third place as a team," said head coach Scott Saunders. Charlotte Poulsen beat Carbon and then lost to North Sanpete and Emery to finish fourth in second singles. In third singles, Summer Stevens beat Emery and Carbon before losing to Juab in the championship. Richfield took sixth place in first doubles, and finished third in both second and third doubles. The state play-in tournament was also Saturday in North Sanpete. Only Emrie Sorenson had to play her way in to state, and she beat Delta, so all of the Richfield varsity players qualified to play at Liberty Park this Friday and Saturday in the state tournament.
