After American white pelicans completely abandoned their nesting colony on Gunnison Island last year, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources was encouraged to see the birds nesting on Hat Island this year — the first time they have nested there since 1943.Located in the Great Salt Lake, Hat and Gunnison islands are both owned by the DWR and are designated as wildlife management areas, primarily serving as protected bird rookeries.

State tournament has begun with bracket play.

Softball teams started bracket play, which will determine which team is state champion.The first day of bracket play for 2A softball was May 3, with the first game of the championship being Wayne High against North Summit.
