Backpacks for back to school

Parents and their school aged children lined the back parking lot of local internet provider for their free backpack filled with school supplies on August 2.Richfield’s InfoWest, The Internet People, held their fifth annual backpack and school supply giveaway event where they handed out over 150 new backpacks full of supplies to elementary through college age students to help them prepare for next week’s school year opening.It looked like a scene from a Black Friday sale as over 60 people created a line thirty minutes before the event started that wrapped around the parking lot and buildings leading to the backpack tables.It was all smiles as students received their new supplies marking the start of another school year.

Snow College Legislative Adventure Day

On Monday, July 29, Snow College’s Richfield Campus buzzed with excitement as employees, local legislators, and commissioners gathered for the much-anticipated Legislative Adventure Day.This second annual event not only showcases the college’s commitment to community engagement but also provides a unique opportunity for attendees to explore the natural beauty of Sevier County’s trail country.The day kicked off with warm welcoming remarks from Snow College President Stacee McIff, who expressed gratitude for the strong support of the college’s legislative partners and highlighted some recent achievements and future aspirations of the campus.President McIff’s speech set an enthusiastic tone for the day, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and lawmakers for the continued growth and development of the region.After the opening ceremony, attendees were treated to a tour of Snow College’s Richfield Campus.

Semi rollover drops lithium battery

A semi truck tipped over Saturday, July 27 causing a fire hazard after dropping its cargo on the North end of Richfield Main Street, a 77,000 pound lithium battery.Due to the “extreme fire hazard” Richfield City Police blocked off the roadway until the large battery was able to be moved from its location.

Monroe Pioneer Day Parade

Although a usually somewhat quiet city of about 2,600 people, the streets come alive the week of July 24 as people flock to the city of Monroe nestled in beautiful Sevier County.Every July 24, Pioneer Day is celebrated in Utah to commemorate the Mormon pioneers arriving in the Sat Lake valley after a grueling 1,300 mile trip from Nauvoo, Illinois on foot, covered wagons, and hand carts.
