After 25 years of dedicated service to the Sevier County School District, Brett Beagley, the current principal of South Sevier High School, is set to retire. Throughout his career, Beagley has left a lasting impact on countless students, whether in the woodshop, on the court winning state championships, or through his leadership as an administrator.

“Brett Beagley has had a profound influence on the lives of hundreds of students throughout his career as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal,” said Sevier School District Superintendent Cade Douglas. “He has been successful in all aspects of his career, and his classes, teams, and schools have been recognized for their academic achievements, career and technical education honors, and multiple athletic state championships.”

Beagley’s journey into education was unconventional but paved the way for his future success.

“I originally went to school to become a teacher and coach—that’s what I wanted to do,” said Beagley. “But I started working construction in the summers, began making money, and never went back.”

For nearly two decades, Beagley worked as a contractor along the Wasatch Front, gaining valuable hands-on experience. Eventually, he decided to return to his original passion for education, earning his teaching license through Utah’s Alternative Route to Licensure (ARL) Program.

“I started as a woodshop teacher at both South Sevier and Richfield High School,” said Beagley. “When a full-time position became available, I applied and taught full-time at Richfield High School for 11 years.”

Beagley had always aspired to become a principal, which required furthering his education. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in social science from Ashford University and a master’s degree in MEd. from Lamar University.

“It was a different route, but it worked out,” he said. “Bringing in a different type of experience has been valuable in my career.”

After earning his degrees, Beagley became an assistant principal, working alongside Principal Randy Madsen at South Sevier High School for six years before stepping into the principal role in the fall of 2020.

In addition to his roles as a teacher and administrator, Beagley was also deeply involved in coaching, dedicating 30 seasons over 20 years to various sports programs.

“I coached two sports per year for several years,” said Beagley.

During his coaching career, he served as the head volleyball coach at Richfield High School for 11 years and the boys’ basketball coach for three years while also assisting in various other sports. At South Sevier, he continued coaching, serving as head volleyball coach for four years and assisting in boys’ basketball for three years.

“I met so many amazing kids throughout the years,” Beagley shared. “They blessed my life and helped keep me young.”

Beagley led teams to state championship titles in 2002, 2008, 2011, and 2012, further cementing his legacy as both a coach and mentor.

“Brett is a favorite teacher and coach to hundreds of former student-athletes,” said Douglas. “He has been consistent and caring in his leadership, helping countless students reach their full potential. Sevier School District will certainly miss Mr. Beagley. We wish him success and happiness in his retirement and thank him for a job well done.”
