On Tuesday, July 3, at approximately 2:31 a.m., Richfield City Police were called in response to shots fired at the Maverik, located at 295 South Main Street in Richfield.

“A dispute took place between two individuals,” said Police Chief Trent Lloyd. “One individual showed a hand gun, then proceeded to aim it at the other individual.”

Lloyd said the suspect then shot rounds above the other individuals head.

Officers arrived on scene and the suspect, identified as Dakota Brown, 23, of Richfield, fled on a red 4-wheeler.

“Officers pursued the individual until the pursuit became too dangerous and was later terminated,” said Lloyd.

The suspect was seen again on Main Street a few hours later where he was again chased and terminated.

In the Richfield City Police press release they stated that Brown was located again in the morning of July 3 on 800 South where he was believed to be sleeping in a camp trailer.

“We called in additional agencies for support and assistance in evacuating and securing the surrounding area,” said Lloyd.

Once the area was cleared and safe for officers to proceed, they used a non-physical strategy of texting the suspect to come out of the trailer where he was hiding in to visit with his family member.

“The suspect was take into custody without further incident,” said Lloyd.

Brown has been charged with aggravated assault (x2), felony discharge of a firearm, threat or use of a dangerous weapon in a fight (x3), threat of violence (x4), failure to stop at the command of police (x2), reckless driving, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person (x3), possession of a controlled substance, use of possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal mischief.

Chief Lloyd and the Richfield City Police Department thanks the other agencies that assisted including Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Highway Patrol, and Utah Department of Corrections.
