On Friday, February 28, Circle Cliff Ranch Alpacas was named the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Business of the Year for its unique business model, dedication to customer service, and interactive experience that can be enjoyed by all ages.

Established in 2015, Circle Cliff Ranch Alpacas is the largest and happiest alpaca ranch in southern Utah. This unique agri-tourism business, nestled between Bicknell and Torrey in Wayne County, offers visitors an unforgettable experience.

“Our goal is ‘Let our alpacas put a smile on your face,’ and we aim to please,” said Diena Riddle, owner of Circle Cliff Ranch Alpacas.

Riddle shared how her love for alpacas began and how it transformed into a passion she had to share with others.

“My heart was captured the first time I met the alpacas in Heber City,” Riddle said. “I remember thinking, ‘I love these animals and have to share them with others.’”

Her business offers a full interactive experience where visitors learn about alpacas, hand-feed them, and create meaningful memories.

“I’ve been working with the Small Business Development Center for about five years now,” Riddle said. “I attended their yearly conferences and classes… I have benefited so much, not only from the inspiration of other leaders but also from learning practical skills like Canva and bookkeeping.”

Riddle credits the SBDC for helping her develop her business skills, providing one-on-one mentorship, and always being a resource she can rely on.

“The best part of my job is getting to work with wonderful business owners like Diena,” said Janette Wagner, assistant director of Snow College SBDC/Custom Fit. “We selected Diena and Circle Cliff Ranch Alpacas as this year’s Business of the Year because she is not only a successful business owner but also a great support to other women and businesses in her community.”

Circle Cliff Ranch Alpacas is the only agri-tourism business featuring alpacas south of Heber City, offering guests a unique and fun experience.

Agri-tourism is a growing form of experiential travel that allows visitors to participate in farm- or ranch-related activities they wouldn’t typically experience.

“It is evident when speaking with Diena and visiting her ranch that she truly loves her animals,” Wagner said.

In addition to offering hands-on experiences, Diena also sells yarn made from her alpacas’ fleece, along with apparel, artwork, crafts, stuffed animals, and home and garden supplies.

One of Diena’s key philosophies for running a successful business is to always give back to the community and pay it forward.

“Last fall and spring, I had the privilege of working with our local 4-H program, where kids ages 8-15 held a makers’ market to test their entrepreneurship ideas,” Diena said.

During this event, young entrepreneurs were supported by the community as they showcased their businesses, proving that success is possible with passion and a desire to meet a need.
