The 40 Book Challenge encourages fifth-grade students from Jacoy Christensen's fifth-grade class at Pahvant Elementary School to read books from nine different genres. They get to experience genres they might not have tried on their own, and sometimes they end up finding a new favorite genre. Theses range from poetry to science fiction, and fantasy to informational literature. These students started this challenge on the first day of school. No books could be used that they started in the summer. This is a huge challenge, even for most adults. Christensen said. It is always fun to watch them take every second they can spare during free time and immerse themselves in a book. Shown here, fifth-graders Luke Stott and Merritt Conder. Photo Credit: Jeff Raisor
