City council maintains ordinance policy

Richfield City council held strong to their mixed-use ordinance when requested by Poulsen Development to consider allowing them to continue renovating the old Knight’s Inn and Johnson Motel to accommodate potentially 29 rentable units.Troy Poulsen approached the council during the last town meeting, March 26, to explain how a grant they were pursuing from the Division of Homeless Services, would allow them to renovate the ‘L’ shaped building and demolish the old Johnson Motel and rebuild a smaller commercial building in its footprint.“The request does not meet our current ordinance,” said Mayor Bryan Burrows, “and things requested by the council and planning commission in the prior agreement [with Poulsen Development] were never previously met, such as obtaining a building permit.”Poulsen Development returned to the council on April 9, to repeat a similar renovation plan, however, limiting the rentable units to 20 instead of 29 total.
