The Utah Daughters of Pioneers met on January 13. Captain Jodi Johnson called the meeting to order. It was well attended, including three new visitors. Becky Dean gave the opening prayer and Molly Blackburn led in the Pledge of Allegiance. January birthdays included Roma Henry, Sue Ann Swalberg, and DeAnn Heitman. Leslie Carter won the door prize, given by Carol Lindsey. It included some of Carols favorite things: chocolate, a novel, homemade rolls, a potted plant, and a diet Dr. Pepper. The Pioneer history was given by Liz Jessen, daughter of long-time Circleville resident the late George Whittaker. She spoke of her great, great, great grandfather, Elijah Fordham who was born in 1798 in New York City. Carma Brindley brought two artifacts that belonged to her great grandmother, a small vase and an ornate black cape. Marilyn Morgan gave the lesson on Santa Clara, Utah in Washington County. She recounted the great flood that occurred and the cotton that was grown and harvested from the area during the pioneer days. A light luncheon of salad with various toppings was provided by Barbara and Stephynie Gleave. February’s DUP meeting will be held on February 10. Newcomers are welcome.
