Thursday, Dec. 30, 1971 edition “Bill Creates Capitol Reef As Park” This week in history, Capitol Reef was officially designated as a national park. U.S. President Richard Nixon signed the bill Dec. 22, in Washington D.C., that made Capitol Reef Utah’s fifth national park. Also created this same year was Arches National Park.

I recall reading a Christmas story once about an “air tree.” It was the story of the family struggling due to job loss who found a way to make the holiday special. As I remember it, a mother looking to provide a Christmas tree for her young daughters, and with the family unable to afford to purchase one, came up with a creative solution.
