Jerry Baker paid tribute to the 49 fallen soldiers with whom he served in Vietnam from 1967-1968, Charlie Company 3rd of the 22nd 25th Infantry. Eleven men whose lives were lost at the Battle of Burt was referenced in the movie, Platoon directed by Oliver Stone. Baker’s display consisted of 49 crosses with an American flag atop each one. The individual crosses displayed the name and picture of each soldier with the year they were killed in Vietnam. On a round table next to the crosses, was a candle, Bible, rose, and a framed poem by an unknown author. The poem begins with, “I heard a soldier as he knelt and prayed . . .” At night, spotlights illuminated the display. All were invited to visit and spend time in reflection to give gratitude and remembrance to these young men who sacrificed their lives. Thank you, Jerry Baker, for helping us to always remember! by Amanda Baker on May 27, 2025
