On Wednesday, September 18 the unimaginable happened on a construction site in Antimony where Keegon Heath was operating a skid steer loader when it tipped over into an open cold storage space, pinning him against the basement wall upside down.
“There was no service on site,” shared his wife, Hadyn Heath.
Quick action was made by Keegon’s brother, Treven Heath, and the property owners on the site. EMTs were there quickly to assess the accident. It was determined to leave him in place until life flight was on scene.
It took roughly an hour and fifteen minutes for life flight to arrive, where Keegon was immediately taken to St. George Regional Hospital.
“When Keegon arrived at the hospital, they already had a trauma orthopedic surgeon ready,” said Hadyn.
At the time of the accident, Hadyn was working in Cedar City and was able to meet Keegon at the hospital along with Keegon’s mother.
Since the accident, Keegon has undergone four surgeries to fix his broken right femur, two broken tibia, and to aid his other wounds.
Miraculously, Keegon has been healing exceptionally well and was able to be released home on Tuesday, October 15.
“I always knew Keegon was tough,” said Hadyn. “But I didn’t know he was this tough.”
Keegon and Hadyn were welcomed home by family, friends, and community members who had been praying for his recovery.
Throughout this experience, the Heath’s have expressed extreme gratitude for the community support and fundraising that has taken place.
“We are extremely blown away by the amount of prayers, donations, contributions and love we have received,” said Hadyn. “We have both lived here our entire lives—we’ve always known how great this community was but we have a new sense of gratitude and love for our community.”
The property owners took immediate action quickly to start a GoFundMe the night of the accident.
“It was so kind of them to step up and do that,” said Hadyn.
Then the “Keeg’s Raffle for Recovery” was started by close family and friends of the Heath’s to help aid towards their medical costs and expenses from not working during this time. Donations poured in from local businesses and community members.
“The raffle raised $8,000 that will help go towards the mounting medical bills that won’t be covered by our insurance and both of us being out of work,” said Hadyn.
The Heath’s expressed their sincere gratitude for the community they live in and the support they have been given during this difficult time.
“I know we won’t be able to say thank you to everyone, because even if you shared the posts you helped support us, and we thank you for it,” said Hadyn. “We are so grateful.”
Keegon will still have a long road to complete recovery, including physical therapy and rehabilitation, however his family remains hopeful with his spirit and grit he will continue to recover quickly.
