Groucho Marx left us with a classic line: Who are you going to believe, me or your own lying eyes? The Commentators at Fox News ask us the same question nightly. Hannity, Carlson, and Ingram all have their minds made up long in advance of having to grapple with the facts or trying to discern the truth. Dogma trumps facts and truth!
Look at the impeachment hearing currently being conducted by the House of Representatives. Not only have Trump, Rudy, and Mulvaney confessed in public to trying to get Ukraine to investigate the Bidens, but other persons serving in the Trump administration—Ambassador Taylor and Colonel Vindman—have come forward this week to confirm that Trump was trying to extort the Ukrainians into investigating the Bidens. There was indeed a quid pro quo.
Fox News is masterful at misrepresenting the facts and distorting the truth. They dismissed Ambassador Taylor’s testimony because he was not on the phone line when Trump placed his call to Ukraine. Likewise, they rejected Colonel Vindman’s testimony because he was on the line as part of his job when Trump placed his call. Fox News had the gall to call a man who was wounded in Iraq fighting for his country a “spy.” If Trump were to walk out onto the south lawn of the White House tomorrow morning an announce to the world that he had experienced a spiritual epiphany—that he was guilty as sin when it came to trying to extort the Ukrainians—the Fox News team would tell him he did not know what he was talking about and that he needed to shut his mouth and go back to bed.
Marx had it right: Who are you going to believe, Fox News are your own lying eyes?
