Jay Henion

MONROE — Jay Henion, 80, passed away at home July 30, 2019. He was born Oct. 9, 1938, to Fredrick and El’Verta Williams Henion in Kansas City, Missouri. His parents moved their family to California in 1951 where Jay attended Monrovia/Duarte High School in Monrovia, California. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy from 1957-58. After the Navy he worked for Logistics Corp. In 1962 after moving his family to Salt Lake City, he worked for L-3 Communications until he retired 1996.

Jay married Marlene Bacon in 1958. They had three children, Dwinn, Lora and Patrick. They later divorced. He married the love of his life, Joni Jarvis, in 1978. After retirement they moved to Monroe where they raised dogs, cats, chickens, a duck, goats, a lamb and adopted two BLM wild horses. He loved all his animals dearly.

He loved working with his hands – jewelry, wood carving, all different crafts, as well as being Mr. Fix It Man. Jay loved four-wheeling and guided rides for the Rocky Mountain ATV Jamboree for 17 years.

He is survived by his wife, Joni; daughters, Dwinn (Jerry) Brown, Lora (Marty) Eoff; and son, Patrick Henion; granddaughters, Barilyn (Anthony) Julander and Tiffany (Tony) Brown; great-grandchildren, Braydon Julander, Kaysia Julander and one great-grandchild on the way; sister, Carol Turner; and brothers, Robert (Deanna) Henion and Mike (Karin) Henion. 

Jay was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation services have taken place. Memorial services are being planned for a future date and will be announced by Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
