Sue Nielson

Sue Nielson

MONROE — In the early morning hours Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, our beloved darling, Carol Sue Hansen Nielson, 84, passed away in the arms of her sweetheart, in their home in Monroe. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. While heaven has gained this bright soul, she will be sorely missed here on earth. She was born Oct. 16, 1934, to Verd and Mae Hansen in Monroe.

Sue spent her childhood and youth among family and friends in Monroe. She graduated from South Sevier High School, class of 1952. She attended three semesters at BAC now known as Southern Utah University. In 1953, she married Russ Nielson of Richfield. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They began their married life in the south end of the Salt Lake valley, settling in Sandy, where they made their home and accrued countless friends. In 1961 and 1963 the two long awaited miracles arrived. Connie and Shawn were born and family life began in earnest. After 20 years in Sandy, a longing to be back in Sevier County brought Sue and her family to her childhood home, Monroe.

A very faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sue served in many capacities including primary, Sunday school, young women and relief society. She went about providing service to neighbors, friends and anyone in need. She especially enjoyed a calling to serve as a temple worker along with Russ at the Manti temple.

Sue was employed from 1979 to 1996 by LDS Family Services. She enjoyed her time working as a secretary with a wonderful staff.

As a wonderful wife, Sue was very engaged with her family. Each child, grandchild and great-grandchild felt her love and support. She and Russ happily opened their home to LaRaine Yazzie and David John during the years in Monroe. She loved each of them and supported them, counting them among her children. David’s artwork adorns their home.

She was a loving sister and a friend to so many.

Sue is survived by her husband, Russ, Monroe; children, Connie and Russell Sorensen, Gunnison; Shawn and Ann Marie Nielson, Lehi; grandchildren, Andrea (Aaron) Stucky, Suzanne (Timothy) Madsen, Cynda (Kualii) Min, Zackery (Kadie) Sorensen, Waid (Lacey) Nielson and Jordain (Kyker Mathews) Nielson; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters; LaRaine Yazzie; David John and family; and her sister, Jerrie (Owen) Barker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Someday, my love, we’ll be together again. How happy we are to be assured of this!
