MONROE – South Sevier High School’s football team traveled to Nephi to take the field against Juab, Friday. The third ranked Wasps defeated the Rams, 49-7, in the bout.
The Wasps put 21 points on the scoreboard during the first 12 minutes of the game. The first touchdown was an 11-yard run by Cade Bowring at the 7:43 mark. Brock England’s PAT was good. The second TD was an eight-yard run by quarterback Zac Cowan, which was followed by another England PAT with 4:38 remaining in the first quarter. The Wasps found pay dirt again with a 30-yard pass from Cowan to Slade Blackburn with 2:25 left. England nailed a third PAT putting the Wasps up 21-0.
During the second stanza, Cowan and Bowring connected two more times for two more touchdowns. The first was a 14-yard pass at the 10:53 mark and then a 61-yard pass at the 7:31 mark in the 2Q. England added two more points for the Wasps with two PATs giving Juab a 35-0 lead at halftime.
In the back half of the game, Teagen Christensen crossed into the end zone with an 18-yard run. England’s sixth PAT attempt went through the goalposts extending the Wasps lead to 42-0 with just 1:29 on the third quarter clock.
During the final 12 minutes of the matchup, South Sevier QB, Tracen Winkel, connected a pass with Brody Carter for a 26-yard touchdown putting the Rams on the scoreboard with 5:22 remaining in the game. Spencer Garrett’s PAT was good
The Wasps’ offense made its mark one last time when Connor Ingram made it across the goal line with an 18-yard run. Ryker Richards hit the final PAT of the game for the Wasps.
South Sevier will travel to Delta and take the field against the Rabbits Friday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m.
