The Richfield High School wrestling team competed in the 3A southern divisional in Nephi Saturday.
The Wildcats came in ninth. Host school Juab won the divisional with 311 points. Desert Hills and Hurricane came in second and third, respectively.
Wyatt Peterson was Richfield’s top grappler, finishing the 195-pound division in third place. He started out his run at the tournament by pinning Cedar’s Kioni Alvarez and Canyon View’s Dallen Smith. He also pinned Carbon’s AJ Adams.
Peterson defeated Snow Canyon’s Tanner Nelson by decision in the third place round.
Dillon Sorenson (170) nabbed fourth place, losing his final match of the day to Canyon View’s Tyler Haley. Sorenson pinned three opponents, and had one decision win during the tourney.
Dakota Curtis (120) nabbed sixth place in his division. He pinned Hurricane’s Ben Howard in the second round, and then had two decision wins during the tournament.
Kale Morrison (152) also earned sixth in his division. He had one pin and two victories by fall.
Dominik Waitman (113), Matthew Cowley (126) and Moroni Shumway (285) all placed seventh individually for Richfield.
Chandler Sweitzer (113) and Kade Jensen (160) placed eighth for the Wildcats.
Ruger Hunt (106) placed ninth.
Drexton Robinson (106) and Justin Dastrup (182) both placed 10th. Mason Allred (120) finished the tournament in 12th place.
The state tournament is set for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10 and 11, at Utah Valley University in Orem.
