The Wildcats of Richfield High School had little trouble staying on top of the Region 12 heap as they hosted San Juan and Grand Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The wins put Richfield in a dead heat with Emery for first place in the region, both with 7-1 records.
Friday night the ’Cats blasted San Juan 62-47.
Josh Thalman blazed the trail with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Morgan Albrecht contributed 13 points, and led the team’s rebounding with seven. Emmett Hinck was the final ’Cat to score in double digits, nailing one downtowner on his way to 10 points.
Hayden Harward chipped in three shots from the outside, followed by Will Robinson with eight points and Max Robinson with four.
The ’Cats took the reigns early and by halftime had built up a 27-15 edge. San Juan was never able to get back into contention through the second half.
Richfield’s boys then dusted Grand, 69-43, Saturday.
Grand’s Kaine Allred proved formidable, posting 24 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
However, the Red Devils had no answer for Thalman who was lethal both inside and outside of the three-point line. He fired off three downtowners on his way to 33 points, which included a dunk. He also had a double-double, as he pulled down 13 rebounds for the ’Cats.
Max checked in to add 12 points to Richfield’s total, including a pair of treys. His brother Will posted seven, also hitting a 3-pointer.
Albrecht rang the net for eight points, followed by Hinck with six and Harward with three.
Next Richfield is set to travel to South Sevier in a rivalry rematch Friday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m.
