SALINA – The North Sevier High School boys’ basketball team traveled to compete in the Enterprise Blue and Gold Tournament in Enterprise, Nov. 26 and 27. The Wolves picked up two wins and one loss at the two-day tourney.
The Wolves’ first bout was against Hurricane’s junior varsity team, which the Wolves won 63-44. The Wolves jumped to an early lead outscoring the Tigers 16-6 in the first quarter and 17-12 in the second for a 33-18 advantage when the squads split for halftime.
During the back half of the matchup, the Wolves put 19 points on the scoreboard in the third stanza and 11 points in the fourth, while holding the Tigers to 12 and 14 points, respectively.
Burke Mickelsen led the Wolf pack with 21 points. Marshall Okerlund drained two from behind the arc on his way to 14 points for the Wolves. Darian Johnson contributed 10 points, one of which was from downtown. Brody Butler added nine points. Ethan Fielding hit a three-pointer as part of his seven points, while Ryker Frischknecht put up two points in the Wolves’ winning effort.
The Wolves then took the court against Diamond Ranch’s Diamondbacks and earned a 56-38 victory. Again, the Wolves jumped out to an early lead putting 16 points on the board in the first quarter and held the Diamondbacks to five points. Both squads put up 11 points in the second stanza for an 11-point advantage for the Wolves at halftime. After which, the Wolves outscored the Diamondbacks 11-8 in the third quarter and 18-14 in the fourth to chalk the win.
Mickelsen led the offensive effort with 19 points. Okerlund followed with 12 points. Butler hit two treys on his way to 10 points. Fielding also nailed a trey as part of his seven points. Johnson scored six points, three of which were earned from behind the arc, while Deagan Brazell added two points to the Wolves’ tally and ultimate victory.
The final matchup of the tourney was a battle of the Wolves – the North Sevier Wolves versus the Enterprise Wolves. Enterprise defeated North Sevier by 12 points, 54-42. Enterprise outscored North Sevier 24-10 in the first stanza. North Sevier fought back in the second quarter putting up 17 points, while holding Enterprise to 10 points.
In the second half of the game, Enterprise added 20 points to North Sevier’s 15 points.
Mickelsen scored 13 points. Okerlund followed with 10 points. Fielding drilled two from downtown on his way to seven points. Johnson put up five points for the Wolves. Butler added four to the scoreboard for the Wolves.
The Wolves will compete in the Central Utah Basketball Preview at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6 and 7. The first bout will be against Rowland Hall’s Winged Lions Friday, Dec. 6, at 5:30 p.m. After which, the Wolves will take the court against the Parowan Rams Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m.
