’Cats pack up two home wins – Richfield’s boys take a road loss at Snow Canyon

Richfield High School’s Kasey Giddings goes up for a shot Dec. 18 on the Wildcats’ home court. The ’Cats won both of their home games, but fell during a road trip.

The Richfield High School boys’ basketball team blasted two non-region foes last week, but were taken down during a road trip to Snow Canyon Friday.

First the Wildcats outpaced Hurricane 64-41, with a lethal outside attack. The ’Cats dropped in 11 3-pointers during the game, including five from Emmett Hinck, who fired off five treys on his way to 18 points total.

Josh Thalman contributed to both the inside and the outside game, posting two 3-pointers and making several from under the net for 16 points in total.

Will Robinson posted 11 points in the game for Richfield, hitting three treys, while Max Robinson posted 10 including one from beyond the perimeter. Kasey Giddings, four points; Jackson Archibald, three; and Dallin Stewart, two, rounded out the ’Cats’ scoring for the night.

Richfield had doubled Hurricane’s output in the first quarter, going up 16-8. The Wildcats gave Hurricane little hope through the rest of the game.

The next night the ’Cats took a convincing win over Canyon View 70-56.

This time, the ’Cats sprinted to a 25-10 advantage. Canyon View closed the gap slightly by halftime, which ended 36-25 in favor of Richfield.

Through the second half the ’Cats continued to outpace the Falcons.

This time Thalman led the charge, piling up 26 points including a pair of 3-pointers. Stewart also drained a pair of downtowners on his way to eight points for the ’Cats. Max posted 11 in the effort.

Snow Canyon proved to be about as hospitable to the visiting ’Cats as they were to their guests earlier in the week, pounding out a 59-42 victory.

Snow Canyon found its stride early, securing a 29-14 edge by the half. Richfield didn’t have an answer for Snow Canyon’s Morrison Walker, who scored 21 points including six 3-pointers.

Hinck added 13, while  Thalman contributed 12 points, including two 3-pointers. Max also had a trey on his way to six points. Will posted five, while Giddings and Stewart each had three.

The ’Cats will travel to St. George to take the court against the Desert Hills Thunder Friday, Jan. 3, at 7 p.m.
