Bobcats take down Wolf Women

SALINA – The Wolf Women of North Sevier High School suffered a 3-0 road loss to the Lady Bobcats in Panguitch, Sept. 5. The Lady Bobcats won the non-conference bout in three sets – the first set 25-14, the second set 25-10 and the third a close 27-25. 

During the matchup, Kaysha Beckstead led the pack knocking down five kills and digging up five balls for the Wolf Women. Mckylee Malmgren had three spikes, two single blocks and five block assists. Brinley Mason and Gracee Johnson both blocked six balls. Allie Cowley had five blocks, while Kamree Brunson received 35 serves from the Lady Bobcats and dug the ball up 27 times for the Wolf Women during the game. 

The Wolf Women hosted the third annual Leader of the Pack tournament in Salina Saturday. Twelve teams participated in the round-robin tourney – Gunnison, Millard, Beaver, Maeser Preparatory Academy, Merit College Preparatory Academy, Altamont, Duchesne, Wayne, Grand, Parowan, Valley and North Sevier. 

“It was a long, but great day of volleyball,” said Audrey Brown, NSHS’ head coach. “It gave us a chance to work on a few things in our rotations, see a few teams in our region and gave us some confidence we really needed.”

Results for the Wolf Women include –

• Win over Grand, 2-1.

• Win over Duchesne, 2-0.

• Win over Beaver, 2-0.

• Win over Merit College Preparatory Academy, 2-0.

• Loss to Valley, 2-0. 

• Tie with Duchesne, 1-1. 

• Win over Maeser Preparatory Academy, 2-0.

• Loss to Gunnison, 2-0.

“The girls fought through the long day, played hard and proved we are ready for the season,” Brown said. “And, we’d like to thank the parents and our junior varsity players who helped so much to make the day run smooth.”

The Wolf Women’s next three matches will be on their home court in Salina – first, they will host the Lady Buckaroos of Monticello Tuesday, Sept. 17; then the Lady Longhorns of Altamont Thursday, Sept. 19; and then the Lady Bulldogs of Gunnison Tuesday, Sept. 24. All games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
