BICKNELL – The boys’ basketball team at Wayne High School split the week on their home court in Bicknell – the first game resulted in a 58-43 victory over Diamond Ranch’s Diamondbacks, Dec. 2. The second bout ended in a 62-56 loss to Water Canyon’s Wildcats Saturday.
The Badgers more than doubled the Diamondbacks offense in the first quarter outscoring them 17-7. The Badgers extended the lead during the second stanza putting 19 points on the scoreboard to the Diamondback’s 16 points. The squads split for halftime with the Badgers leading 36-23. During the back half of the game, the Diamondbacks chalked 11 points to the Badgers’ eight points in the third quarter, which cut the Badgers’ lead to 10 points. During the final eight-minute stretch, the Badgers added 14 points to the scoreboard and held the Diamondbacks to nine points for the victory.
Shade Torgerson topped the Badgers’ scoring with 18 points, nine of which came from behind the arc. Bridger Brian also hit a trey on his way to 16 points. Tyrel Brian followed with eight points. Braige Jacobson posted seven points, while Ian Fillmore added four points. Logan Chappell hit a 3-pointer for his three-point contribution. Ethan Morrill had two points for the Badgers.
In a tough bout against Water Canyon, the Badgers built a one-point advantage during the front half of the matchup. The squads split for halftime with the Badgers up 32-31. The Wildcats fought back in the third quarter scoring 15 points to the Badgers’ 13 points to take a one-point lead. During the fourth stanza, the Wildcats extended the lead and claimed the victory scoring 16 points and holding the Badgers to 11 points.
Bridger led the Badgers with 23 points, three of which were earned from behind the arc. Jacobson followed with 11 points. Torgerson hit two from downtown for six of his nine points. Tyrel posted five points for the Badgers, while Jesse Webb contributed four points. Fillmore and Chappell both scored two points for the Badgers.
The Badgers will travel to Milford to take the court against the Tigers Friday, Jan. 10. After which, they will host Panguitch’s Bobcats in Bicknell Tuesday, Jan. 14. Both games are slated to begin at 7 p.m.
