Richfield High School’s Lady Wildcats picked up a 50-38 road win over the fourth ranked Cowgirls in Grantsville Friday. The win and a 9-3 overall record moved the Lady ’Cats into a third place ranking in the 3A girls’ basketball division.
After both teams scored 14 points in the first quarter, the Lady ’Cats outscored the Cowgirls throughout the remainder of the game putting up 13 points to the Cowgirls’ nine points in the second stanza, 11 points to seven in the third and 12 points to eight during the fourth quarter,
Amanda Oldroyd, Jarica Steck and Passion Reitz all sank shots from behind the arc during the bout. Reitz also nabbed seven rebounds, had three assists and four steals for the Lady ’Cats. Steck pulled down six boards, assisted three times and stole the ball from the Cowgirls five times. Sipola Vakautakakala posted 12 points, 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Nicole Willardson chalked five points, grabbed 11 boards, had an assist and a steal for the Lady ’Cats. Jacee Albrecht scored three points and snagged five rebounds, while Jordyn Moon had four rebounds, four assists and three steals in the matchup.
The Lady ’Cats currently have a 9-3 overall record.
The Lady ’Cats will host Grand’s Lady Red Devils on their home court in Richfield Friday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m., and then San Juan’s second ranked Lady Broncos Saturday, Jan. 11, at 4:30 p.m.
