BICKNELL – Wayne High School’s boys won the 1A state cross-country championship Oct. 23, in Salt Lake City.
The boys outpaced second place Panguitch by scoring 33 to the Bobcats’ 53. Piute came in third at 56 points.
“This is why I coach,” said Lane Sorensen, head coach. “The youth that I have the opportunity to work with are the best out there and I am lucky to be able to be part of their lives. I am so proud of my team.”
Miles Guerrero led the way for Wayne, scoring a second place finish with a 17:21 time.
Reed Edwards came in sixth place individual for Wayne, finishing the course in 18:00.
Jace Edwards completed the race in 18:30, nabbing 12th overall. Riley Edwards was right behind him in 13th place with an 18:32 time.
Nate Kunze crossed the line in 32nd place with a time of 19:42.
Manny Rascon and Brandon Diaz were the sixth and seventh runners for Wayne.
Wayne’s girls took third as a team, coming in behind Milford and Panguitch.
AnDee VanDyke took point for Wayne, finishing the course in 22:22 for 11th place overall.
Natalie Whipple scored a 14th place finish and a 22:49 time. Felicity Williams, 16th, Saleen Nelson, 35th and Allee VanDyke, 43, all contributed to the Lady Badgers’ total score.
Saray White and Elena Peterson rounded out the varsity squad.
