SALINA – The Lady Rams of South Sevier High School picked up a win, 3-0, over the Wolf Women of North Sevier in Salina, Aug. 28. The two teams fought hard throughout the first set, which the Lady Rams took 25-21. South Sevier went on to win the second and third sets, 25-14 and 25-17, respectively.
The Lady Rams played well both offensively and defensively. Upon discovering holes in the Wolf Women’s defense, the Lady Rams took advantage of tipping the ball into open spots for a multitude of points and turnovers. The Wolf Women struggled from the service line throughout the matchup, yet played well at the net and blocked the Lady Rams’ strong hitters numerous times over the course of the game. Ultimately, Lady Rams’ consistency garnered the win over the Wolves.
The Wolf Women traveled to Fillmore for a bout against the Lady Eagles of Millard, Aug. 27. The Lady Eagles defeated the Wolf Women in four sets, winning the first two 25-18 and 25-19. The Wolf Women fought back to take the third set 25-20. After which, the Lady Eagles locked the victory via a 25-14 fourth set.
Sophomore Gracee Johnson led the Wolf pack with four kills, four blocks, 12 service receptions and 14 digs. Mckylee Malmgren followed with three kills, nine blocks and two digs. Alaina Barney also had three kills, as well as three blocks, two assists and dug the ball up nine times for the Wolf Women. Kaysha Beckstead served the ball 19 times with only one service error. She also dug 16 balls and received 12 serves from the Lady Eagles. Madison Bennett received 12 serves, had 12 digs and went eight of eight from the service line.
North Sevier’s next game will be against the Lady Buckaroos of Monticello Tuesday, Sept. 17, in Salina, followed by a matchup against the Lady Longhorns of Altamont Thursday, Sept. 19. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
South Sevier’s Lady Rams will take the court against inter-county rivals, the Lady Wildcats, in Richfield tonight, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. The squad will then travel to Price to take the court against the Lady Dinos of Carbon Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m.
