Richfield High School’s varsity girls’ tennis team earned the 3A academic state champion award based on the team members cumulative grade point average in Richfield, Nov. 21.
“This years’ tennis team was so much fun to coach,” said Scott Saunders, head coach. “They worked hard on and off the court. They were region champs and took fourth place at state. And, they were just awarded the 3A Academic All-State Team award. What a great bunch of girls.”
The varsity team consisted of Lauryn Thalman, Macey Christensen, Kara Friant, Brooklyn Pace, Kacie Sorenson, Sarah Utley, Sadie Sorenson, Madi Lewis, Karsyn Harris, Danielle Grimshaw, Markell Gates, Echo Pallesen and Ellie Hair. Also, Kailee Anderson, Emma Bogh, Beatriz Branchi, Jamie Hair, Jordyn Harris, Piper Harris, Aubrei Jorgensen, Rachel Krueger, Cassie Marsischky, Julie McFarland, Marissa McIff, Sariah Purkey, Kenady Sorenson, Gwen Stubbs, Dylan Turner and Madison Whitlock.
“It is an outstanding honor for the girls,” said Richard Barton, assistant principal and athletic director at RHS. “They excelled on the court, were region champions, and even more important, the girls excelled in the classroom. RHS is proud of their efforts.”
