The inaugural Sevier County Junior Skirmish volleyball tournament was hosted by Richfield High School’s volleyball program Friday and Saturday.

The two-day tournament drew 34 teams and 260 players from across the state of Utah.

The tourney incorporated a pool-play format and took place at both Richfield High School and South Sevier High School gyms.

The teams competed in three divisions – sixth, seventh and eighth grades, and each team played approximately 10 games over the course of the tournament.

“We hope to make this an annual tournament,” said Cassy Moon, head volleyball coach at RHS. “We received great feedback. Coaches expressed their appreciation for our hosting the tournament and providing such a unique competition experience for young players.”

The tournament included multiple teams from Richfield, North Sevier, Cedar City, St. George, as well as teams from Monroe, Piute, Wayne, Delta, Millard, Ephraim, Minersville, Valley, Morgan and Kanab.

A team from Richfield won the sixth grade division, Delta Red took the gold for the seventh grade division and another team from Richfield finished in the top spot of the eighth grade division.

“We are hoping to grow the tournament in the future,” Moon said. “If we used the various gyms throughout Sevier County, we could accommodate up to 65 teams and benefit the entire county.”
