Ambulance shot at by suspect in Utah County

A broken hubcap appears to be the only damage caused when a suspect shot at a Sevier County ambulance in Utah County Saturday.

A Sevier County ambulance was caught in the line of fire when a man allegedly stole a vehicle and led law enforcement on a multi-county chase Saturday.

“Our ambulance was in Utah County transporting a patient,” said Sevier County Sheriff Nate Curtis. He said the ambulance was in the far left lane of Interstate 15 when a man, later identified as E’an Pernell Hendrix, was driving next to the ambulance and shot at it.

“From what we can tell, it looks like it ricocheted off the road and hit the wheel of the ambulance,” Curtis said. He said the ambulance’s hubcap was damaged, but no injuries or other damage was done.

“For a minute we were questioning out what to do,” Curtis said. He said the Utah Highway Patrol later briefed Sevier County officials on the case.

After a high-speed pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns, Hendrix was later found in Morgan County and arrested. He is also suspected of stealing an OHV, rolling it and starting a fire, after which he allegedly shot his gun and threatened multiple people with it. He is facing a total of 11 charges following the incident.
