A Richfield man’s hand was severed Monday afternoon in an accident at an agricultural operation in Venice, according to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department.

Than Henry, 73, was unloading a truck using a conveyer belt at the time of the accident, said Sevier County Sheriff Nate Curtis.

“He slipped and his hand got caught in the belt,” Curtis said. Henry’s hand was severed.

“He was alone at the time of the accident,” Curtis said. He said emergency medical technicians and deputies responded and were able to recover the hand so it could possibly be reattached.

Henry was transported to Sevier Valley Hospital in Richfield.
