A Richfield City Police Officer was injured during a scuffle the afternoon of Sept. 26 in Richfield.

Officers responded to a report of a verbal argument between a man and a woman, said Richfield City Police Chief Trent Lloyd. The woman involved had reportedly told the man to leave.

“The male subject said he would refuse to leave unless the police made him,” Lloyd said. When an officer reached for the suspect’s arm, there was a scuffle.

During the struggle, the suspect was hit with a stun gun and one of the responding officers was injured.

Police were able to get control of the suspect, Daniel Smith, 48, Richfield, and take him into custody.

Smith is facing charges of assault on a police officer, interference with an arresting officer and criminal trespassing.
