Due to the confirmation of the novel coronavirus in the Central Utah Public Health District, the way garbage is collected is changing effective Monday, April 6.
On that date, White’s Sanitation Inc. will only pick up garbage that is in the bins provided by the company. Other garbage cans, limb bundles, appliances and other waste that doesn’t fit in the White’s provided containers will not be picked up.
“It’s unfortunate that we have to do this,” said Taylor White of White’s Sanitation. “This will prevent our drivers from having to get out of the truck and handle the trash.”
The bins White’s provides are designed to work with the arms on the garbage trucks. Anything that is not in the bins requires White’s personnel to load it by hand, which is what the company is trying to avoid.
The decision to change how garbage is collected was made in consultation with the health department, White said. He said the company will follow the advice of public health officials and the change will remain in effect until it is deemed no longer necessary.
“You won’t find a garbage service like ours anywhere in the state,” White said. “We want to get back to that, but right now we have to keep our guys safe.”
The change will affect all garbage routes in Sevier and Sanpete counties.
White’s is currently in the process of informing each city and town they contract with for garbage removal.
