MONROE — A race for Monroe City Council ended in a tie on election night, but has since been decided.

Election night ended with two of the three seats up for grabs decided, but the third was a tie between Michael Miles and Dane Buchmiller, both with 290 votes.

The city council held its election canvas Nov. 12, where all of the provisional ballots that were validated were counted and added into the mix.

In the end Buchmiller took the race with 305 votes, narrowly beating Miles with 301.

Erica Sirrine garnered a total of 391 votes, followed by Michael Mathie with 346 for the other two spots on the council.

Joe Anderson, 217, and Dana Lundgren, 220, also ran in this year’s election.

The new city council members are due to take office in January.
