Two people were arrested March 6 following an accident at 1300 South and Main Street in Richfield.
The accident occurred as a 2010 Ford Focus driven by Matthew Hatch, 34, Salina, failed to stop at a traffic signal. Hatch was headed north, went through a red light and collided with an eastbound vehicle, according to Richfield City Police.
The second vehicle, a 2009 Ford Edge, was then pushed into a 2007 Saturn Vue.
An ambulance responded, but no one was transported to the hospital.
Hatch was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, failure to yield/stop at sign, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance-heroin.
A passenger in Hatch’s vehicle, Jeremy Syddall, 30, Richfield, was also arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance-heroin with intent to distribute.
“We were lucky that the injuries were not more serious,” said Det. Jason Haywood, Richfield City Police. “This is a prime example of why it’s still important to enforce our DUI laws, whether it’s drugs or alcohol.”
Hatch is the department’s 33rd DUI arrest since Jan. 1.
