Lightning strikes

A tree stands after being struck by lightning in Richfield, Sept. 3. Wayne Kearney said he was working in his backyard when he heard a loud crack of thunder directly overhead. As he turned to see what was happening, he saw debris flying off and around a tree approximately 50 feet away. He then realized lightning had struck the tree and ripped a chunk off of one side. Being a former marine, he said it sounded like, “an incoming mortar hit.”
