An 18-year-old man died Sunday afternoon on Interstate 70 near Richfield. 

Leon Reyes, Elsinore, was standing on the right side of the road and moved into the lanes of travel into the path of a 2013 Peterbilt semi, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. 

The semi, driven by Abel Flores, 65, Boca Raton, Florida, was headed westbound on I-70 and moved to the left. The truck ended up striking Reyes near the center of the roadway, according to the UHP.

Reyes died as a result of impact. 

Flores stopped and returned on foot to where Reyes had been struck, according to the UHP. 

Flores was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. He was arrested for driving under the influence and possession of an illegal controlled substance.
