The Richfield Area Chamber of Commerce recognized two local business’s excellence with awards June 12. Frontier Village, owned and operated by Brett and Cher Ross, was recognized as the Business of the Month and Scott Jensen, Gary’s Shoes was named the Customer Service Super Star of the month.

The Brett and Cher Ross family purchased Frontier Village in 2004, and have built it into a successful business for the past 15 years, according to Cher.

Frontier Village is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. They also offer onsite, as well as offsite, catering for events. Frontier Village employs 32 highly qualified men and women from the area, some of which have been there since the beginning 15 years ago.

Frontier Village donates to many charitable organizations and supports high school athletes at all three Sevier County high schools.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in our area for their support and we look forward to doing business with you for a very long time,” said Cher.

Scott Jensen has been and around the shoe business for the bulk of his life. At the age of 14, he began working with his parents, Gary and Shelba Jensen, in their shoe store – Gary’s Shoes. Gary and Shelba opened the store in 1958 and have been running it ever since.

In 1984, Scott left the store for a brief period after marrying his wife, Lana, and took a job as a shoe buyer for Nordstrom’s. In 1990, they decided to move back to Richfield and take on more responsibility in the family shoe store and he has been working closely with his parents ever since.

Over the years, Gary and Shelba have slowly stepped away from the day to day operations of the store and Scott has taken on more of the management of the store. From time to time, Gary or Shelba can still be found at the store, but for the most part Scott is making sure things run smoothly. While there are times Scott has to be in the office taking care of business, making sure orders are filled, payroll is met and bills are paid, most times you come through the door you will find him on the floor helping customers, measuring feet or running to the back to bring out a stack of shoes to be tried on. Scott is always willing to accommodate any type of special order. If he doesn’t have the shoes you are looking for, he will try to find them and get them for you.

Scott is also very active in the community. He is a member of the Richfield Fire Department, has been involved with the Babe Ruth Baseball program for 19 years, as well as being a member of the Richfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Scott is always willing to help out whether he is the store or wherever he may be,” Todd Gleave said. “He is an all-around good guy, and we are proud to present him with the Customer Service Star of the month award.”
