Emergency responders work to extricate the occupants of a vehicle after it crashed west of Richfield Tuesday afternoon. The accident involved five youths from the Richfield area.

Responders from a myriad of agencies worked to free five youths who were trapped in a vehicle Tuesday afternoon west of Richfield.

Witnesses reported seeing the Jeep driving down the CC Road, near Richfield’s primary water tank. The Jeep left the roadway to the west and launched into the air, landing in a drainage structure, according to witnesses on scene.

At least four of the five occupants in the vehicle received serious injuries. Four medical helicopters were called to the scene to help transport patients to Wasatch Front area hospitals.

The youths are students at Richfield High School.

Investigation of the crash has been turned over to the Utah Highway Patrol, said Richfield City Police Chief Trent Lloyd.

More details about the crash will be released as they become available.
