New York Times best-selling author Dian Thomas set up shop at Fresh Market in Richfield for a few hours Monday morning to promote her latest book, “Tipping the Scales in Your Favor.”
A native of Monticello, Thomas appeared regularly on the “Today” show, and was featured on “The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson” during the mid-1970s when her book, “Roughing it Easy,” camped out on the New York Times’ best-seller list, selling more than one million copies.
Thomas said her current tour includes nearly 50 Associated Food stores across the state. She said though her primary goal is to promote her work, it’s also an attempt to try to help people seeking to find the motivation to lose weight and live happier and healthier lives get off the couch and get moving.
“Losing weight is like a symphony — you have to hear all the instruments playing at the same time to get results,” Thomas said. “My goal is to help people hear that music.”
Thomas said her book is inspired by her own weight struggles. She said at one point, she topped out at some 326 pounds, and has since lost and kept off more than 120 pounds.
“It’s about healthy living,” Thomas said. “There’s no magic bullet to it. It’s all about creating a lifestyle that you like and can maintain.”
